Chile - A Nation that Loves Chess
September 20th, 2008
We’ve been enthused lately by the explosion of chess in Chile amongst grade school-aged children. Well, I should say, in Santiago.
I used to discount chess a more well known game amongst those of another generation, but not so in Santiago. If one was to go visit the many universities across the city one would find many children carrying their chess set around waiting for lunch to take out the board and pieces and battle against their friends.
This is amongst those who could be playing their hand held video games, or the latest card battling game, or soccer! But no, these are of a new kind of breed; one that chooses the chess set rather than the ball. This could be a incline.
